Hieronymouse & other excitements from Wurzeltodistan

by Suzanne on January 14th, 2009

Hieronymouse by Suzanne G. - click for details/larger view

I realised the other day that I never introduced you to my furry flatmate Hieronymouse.

I bought him from the great, admirable Madame Margaretha Dubach of Musée Bizarre in Baden, Switzerland anno 2007 as a gift for Alex.

Hieronymouse is the single most handsome mouseman and I'd definitely go out with him if he was 6ft.

He normally resides under a very posh glass dome wearing exquisite Victorian garments but I felt it was about time to take him out of his ivory tower and take his portrait.

So say "bonjour!" to Hieronymouse the Magnificent. Not all at once please and not too loud because his tiny mouse ears are rather delicate. Thank you.

In other most dreadfully important and urgent WurzelNews®:

i) I'm moving to London tomorrow, i.e. I'll be off the Interweb ov Doom until I've hacked myself into my neighbour's WiFi network found a new provider.

ii) The ever growing blogroll has been updated. You can find it in the sidebar and it's totally javascriptesque, yo! (I never actually say "yo!".. and I feel I need a shower now. A brain shower.) Anyway, if you feel that your blog is worthy to be listed there, get in touch and I'll test its WurzelCompatibility® in the lab and then let my monkey slaves add it to the blogroll. Because I don't do such proletarian tasks with my own fair hands.

iii) RSS/Atom feeds are back up! Mainly because I'm a genius and figured out that it had something to do with the wp-blog-header.php being corrupted and stuff.

iv) Gravatars are back in the comments section. Customise yours here.

v) Press section has been updated. If you have something to say about the WurzelEmpire™, say it in the comments section or by email and my Orthography & Grammar Head Monkey will censor it spell check it and make it sound magnificent.

vi) And finally, Amazon US informed me that two orders got lost in transit/are unavailable. Since I don't normally go on amazon.com when I'm drunk, I assume that someone tried to surprise me for Christmas. That's very, very sweet and incredibly generous of you... whoever you are.. and I'm so very touched! However, if you did order The Upset: Young Contemporary Art or Alchemy & Mysticism for me please get in touch and we'll sue the hell out of Amazon!

That's it for now - live long and prosper!

Marc Burckhardt at HCG Gallery, Dallas

by Suzanne on January 14th, 2009

My favourite time traveling old master painter Marc Burckhardt (previously featured here, here and here) will have three works in the New Year, New Art show at HCG Gallery, Dallas, Texas.

I'm not really sure which works they chose to exhibit, but I suggest you go visit anyway because Marc's art really is quite exceptional - could anyone who plans to attend the show please report back about the works on display? Thankies.

Ericailcane's "Man Is The Bastard" at Carmichael Gallery

Woohooo! Another incredible show not to be missed!

I was going to post this before the actual opening reception yesterday evening, but once again, my database server collapsed. Bugger.

But anyhow, who gives a mutated rat's ass about opening receptions? They're full of narcissistic humanoids obstructing the way to the actual artworks or even endanger the art's safety by getting drunk and stumbling around the gallery space. Distasteful, if you ask me. I try to avoid vernissages whenever possible. Oh, and exclusive previews! Don't even get me started - narcissism mixed with a feeling of faux social importance. Puke-inducing, to say the least.

So be grateful that you missed yet another opening reception due to my bookmarks being a mess and my server being flaky. Amen.

Anywaaaaaay, Ericailcane has a show up at Carmichael Gallery until January 28, 2009.

Revered mainly for his obsessively crosshatched & compulsively etched works on paper, his painstakingly animated short movies are just as ingenius and captivating and probably have the Brothers Quay go mildly green with a faint feeling of distant envy right now. Take a minute or two to watch Il Galeone, Helicobacter Pilory or Cinema Volturno, and I'm sure you'll understand...

The title of Ericailcane's new show alone - Man Is The Bastard - is so utterly true and sad at the same time that you shouldn't think twice about visiting the gallery and exploring Ericailcane's oeuvre in person.

In other creaturesque news, the praying mantis has only one ear, which is located between its legs. Yup.

Moving to London

by Suzanne on January 8th, 2009

For those who were wondering about the silence here on Wurzeltod™: This is due to Alex and I preparing to move to Bethnal Green, London.

As we all know, moving is hell, but rest assured that I'll be back here as soon as we've settled and have internet access.

All the best to you & a very happy 2009!

Lots of love & (fake vegan) monkey brains,

- Suzanne
