'Touché par le feu' at Deyrolle, Paris

by Suzanne on April 3rd, 2009

... and for those of you who happen to be in Paris and require something a little more thought-provoking and pedagogic, the wonderfully tragic Deyrolle hosts a show with photographs by Martin d'Orgeval.

If you've never heard of the Deyrolle and its sad devastation by fire last year, please click here.

The exhibition is entitled Touché par le feu and illustrates the compelling, bittersweet beauty of destruction and will make you understand just how much it takes to restore this beautiful Parisian palace of taxidermy to its former splendour and glory.

by Suzanne on April 3rd, 2009

Because no-one likes art that's too cerebral for the weekend (well, apart from me... I work on weekends...) and because the re-opening of the Whitechapel Gallery will be crowded as hell, here's an alternative - offering you nothing but pure and easily digestible eye candy (.. and boobs!):

Miles Aldridge's (previously featured here) Doll Face opened at Hamiltons yesterday and will be on show through May 10 .

Todd Schorr's 'The World We Live In' at Merry Karnowsky, L.A.

by Suzanne on April 3rd, 2009

An Ape Allegory by Todd Schorr

Look who's here - just in time for Easter? Yes, it's thee Easter Bunneh... err.. Gorilla. He has his best suit on and wants to play with you and give you eggs filled with tentacled, clawed monsters! Awwww! o_O

Todd Schorr might be surprised to learn that I think about him every single morning when I go to get the orange juice and the soy milk out of the fridge and look at the poster for his Golden Age of Hypocrisy show that I've blue-tacked to it. (God, I haaate unmagnetic fridges! It's the whole bloody point of fridges that they're magnetic so that you can stick all your shit to them! And what will I do with my magnetic fridge poetry set now? Hmm?? Gah!).

Anyway, as much as I dislike the fact that Todd is totally useless at updating his site, I do admire his artistic patience as it seems that he has once again spent many tormented, sleepless nights putting an insane amount of grotesque details into his new works.

For those of you lucky enough to live in L.A., you can now go and see the mind-boggling works of Todd's The World We Live In show in their full splendour at Merry Karnowsky at 170 S. La Brea Avenue - while I have to watch this video here. Life is so unfair right now.

On show: March 28 - April 18, 2009

Hours: Tue - Sat: 12 - 6 PM

Address: Merry Karnowsky Gallery, 170 S. La Brea Avenue (in the Art 170 Building), Los Angeles
