I won't bore you with more praises for the Riflemaker, so let me just say this:

Riflemaker's new show, Stuart Pearson Wright's I Remember You, is absolutely gorgeous. I had no concept whatsoever of how small his works really are and how intricate and precise his brushwork is.

It was also most magnificent to see how his characters (normally the artist himself and his fiancée) pop out from the backdrop of the random kitschy landscape which, btw, was in almost all cases upcycled from found thrift store paintings.

Another impressive factor was Stuart's use of more or less untreated tree trunks and branches as frames and the general conceptual and sensory purity of the whole show - even the record that was playing on the ground floor was the work of Mr Wright.

And in stammering fangirl news, I'm thrilled to say that I had the great pleasure to bump into the artist in the upstairs gallery and got him to sign my copy of the catalogue (proof). Weeeeeeee!

I love these portraits. What a delight if must of been for you to bump into the artist. Running into him must of been the "cherry on top" for the night.

    Glad you like 'em.

Yep, it was awesome. Particularly because he really does look exactly like in his portraits. It felt like he had just jumped out of a canvas.. it was utterly surreal. :D
