The Lovely Assistant by Edward Walton Wilcox, bitumen and tempera on panel, 2009

Edward Walton Wilcox's second solo show has just opened at Merry Karnowsky in L.A. and as always, it looks refreshingly monochromatic and earthy - in a rather Goyaesque way.

From what I can gather from the online preview, there will be three or four installation pieces on show too which is nice because despite of what you might have assumed from looking at his rather subdued colour palette, Edward is not a post-apocalyptic one-trick pony. Au contraire, he's a very multi-talented chap indeed. But don't take my word for it - go check Fanatic out yourself if you're in L.A.
