Spreading fear and mayhem in the visual arts.

This post is dedicated to my dear friend Nora...

Helmer: "How unreasonable and how ungrateful you are, Nora! Have you not been happy here?"

Nora: "No, I have never been happy. I thought I was, but it has never really been so."

Helmer: "Not—not happy!"

Nora: "No, only merry. And you have always been so kind to me. But our home has been nothing but a playroom. I have been your doll-wife, just as at home I was papa's doll-child; and here the children have been my dolls. I thought it great fun when you played with me, just as they thought it great fun when I played with them. That is what our marriage has been, Torvald."

(Excerpt from Nora - A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen)

Julien Martinez - Doll Artist

Despite being a rather obvious muse-thief who borrows his ideas from uniquely talented artists like Ray Caesar (examples removed), Camille Rose Garcia (here) and even Mark Ryden (here and here), Julien Martinez has a rather twisted mind and two very talented hands indeed...

After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as long as you don't make any money with it.

Yotsuya Simon - Pygmalionisme

Yotsuya Simon's official site is a stunning showcase of his mechanical and anatomical sculpture work since the 1970s.

Jin Yamamoto - Anatomical Doll Artist

Jin Yamamoto is a veritable homo universalis. His work ranges from etchings, drawings and graphic design to well, doll sculptures.

Dolly † Vivian

I must admit that I never really worked my way around Dolly † Vivian's site. All I know is that whenever I visit them, I find surprisingly erotic and deeply scary dolls in their historical doll universe.

Tomizaki Nori - DigiDoll Créateur

Tomizaki Nori seems to be obsessed with the idea that Alice's Wonderland was in fact a place filled with pig hearts, human-sized maggots, lizards, coffins and iron maidens.

You might have already guessed that he's Japanese too...

William Coupon - Doll Photographer

William says:

"I have an extensive doll collection and through their graciousness, have been allowed to photograph their image with 4x5 digital equipment as well as the large 20x24" format polaroids."

And in other dollish news...

i) AshTrayMouth - This anti-smoking website lets you put dirty socks, dead rats, meal worms, cockroaches, and decaying fish into the mouths of cuddly little dolls. (via BoingBoing)

ii) The Birthday Massacre's video to Blue is back online. Sadly, the song is still very irritating and the video quality is even worse than before, but you can see some of Scott Radke's spooky puppets in it.

iii) Joe Sorren has finally added a paintings archive to his website. (via Phantasmaphile)

iv) Our beloved Mr T. Brown has contributed his Eyelicker painting as cover for the new EyeLicker compilation CD. The CD is now available for pre-order at Sublight Records. It features unreleased cuts by Venetian Snares, Richard Devine et al.
