“In the Land of Retinal Delights” at Laguna Art Museum, CA

Posted in Exhibitions / Openings / Signings, Eyecandy by Suzanne on June 19th, 2008 | BBC Wikipedia

The Creatrix by Mark Ryden, 2005, will be on show at Laguna Art Museum

With a breathtaking line-up of 150-or-so “lowbrow”/”new fine art” names, In the Land of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor - due to open at Laguna Art Museum this weekend – is bound to be a crowd-drawer.

However, I assume there’s only room for one (hopefully representative) piece per artist and I wonder whether some of my insanely talented artist friends should have been included instead of vastly established H&W artists like Paul McCarthy or Raymond Pettibon, but alas, it’s still an impressive mix of artists and styles.

Etymological note to self: Juxtapozian is an adjective now?! o_O

On show: Sunday, June 22 – October 5, 2008

Opening times: Mon – Sun, 11 AM – 5 PM

Featuring: Van Arno, Gary Baseman, Tiffany Bozic, Ray Caesar, Timothy Cummings, Henry Darger, Carlee Fernandez, Camille Rose Garcia, Alex Gross, Laurie Hogin, Sylvia Ji, Laurie Lipton, Chris Mars, Elizabeth McGrath, Scott Musgrove, Marion Peck, Patricia Piccinini, Gail Potocki, Mark Ryden (c.f. image above), Todd Schorr, Kara Walker, Adam Wallacavage, Joel-Peter Witkin, and many, maaaany others!

Address: Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, USA, tel. (949) 494-8971 | Map

Ah! Excellent news! I’ll be up there in August, time for museum stop, I see. Anything you’d like me to pick up?

    BTW, what of juxtapozish?

That’s very kind of you, but I’m completely broke and couldn’t return the favour. However, if you feel like stealing “The Creatrix”, go for it! :D

P.S.: I dunno about “Juxtapozish”; I was just a bit surprised to read “Juxtapozian” in an exhibition press release and wondered what it meant. “Glossy, not enough text and full of ads”, maybe? ;)

I thought about a grand heist, which would’ve been difficult enough in my MINI, but I like a lot of their work too much to deprive everybody else….but for you, just maybe. ;-) I’ll snag an extra catalogue for you, at least, and no argument, I won’t take a ha’penny for it. And altho it’ll be glossy, I’m hoping for no ads.

That’s very generous of you! I’ll go through Alex‘s Drawers of Doom and send you something dead and/or rusty in return. Yaaaay!
