Dutch sculptor Folkert de Jong (previously featured here and here) is definitely keeping busy with solo shows of his foamy oeuvre and he has a new exhibition, Operation Harmony, opening on Friday at James Cohan's New York gallery.
From the press release:
"The artist has an unsettling ability to combine such period perfect details as lace neck ruffs from Vermeer’s Golden Age paintings, together with the dense blackness of the oozing “blood” and “charred” bodies that are spliced onto the sickly pink foam scaffold and the delicacy of the hand-carved teeth and eyes of the decapitated heads."
Nice.

Double Happiness by Folkert de Jong, styrofoam, pigmented polyurethane foam, pearls, 2008
Folkert de Jong's Thousand Years Business As Usual opens at James Cohan Gallery in Shanghai tonight.
It has always deeply impressed me how de Jong can turn styrofoam into charismatic animals whose grotesqueness could easily compete with some of the creatures in Francisco de Goya's Caprichos.
