Femke Hiemstra & A Whole Lot of Eye Candy at CoproNason, Santa Monica

by Suzanne on April 5th, 2009

Glamour Cat by Scott Musgrove, oil on board

Excellence in pop-surrealist eye candy can always be expected from the people behind Hi-Fructose and CoproNason Gallery, but I think they have outdone themselves yet again.

Overdose has just gone on show and features the works of such glorious artists as Alex Pardee, Brendan Danielsson, Chris Peters, Chet Zar, Chris Scarborough, Dan Quintana, Eric Fortune, Jason D'Aquino, Josh Keyes, Kris Kuksi (see image below), Kukula, Martin Wittfooth, Michael Page, Scott Musgrove (see image top), Travis Louie, Yosuke Ueno, Yoko d'Holdbachie to actually only name a few..

The Recreation by Kris Kuksi, mixed media assemblage

And as if this wasn't enough, Femke Hiemstra (see image bottom) has a solo show entitled The Herring's Hairdo in gallery #3. Weeeeeee!

Kris Kuksi & Pat Rocha at Joshua Liner, NYC

The Guardian by Kris Kuksi, 2008, mixed media assemblage - click for details/larger view

Kris Kuksi's - previously featured here - passionately awaited Imminent Utopia show will go on display at Joshua Liner Gallery tomorrow evening bringing you twisted gothic architecture on a microcosmic scale.

The exhibition will feature eleven (!) of Kuksi's insanely detailed, demonic assemblage pieces.

As the show title suggests, Kuksi's grandiose Imminent Utopia sculpture will form the centrepiece of the exhibition. Must. See.

Simultaneously on show are the works of Pat Rocha - highly plastic stills from a collective unconscious mid-20th-century past, painted in deeply complex, Eric Whitesque, semi-translucent layers of oils. Pat's Departure show is highly, highly recommended as well!

Opening reception: Saturday, November 22, 2008, 6 - 9 PM

On show: November 22 - December 20, 2008

Opening times: Tue - Sat, 11 AM - 6 PM

Address: Joshua Liner Gallery, 548 West 28th Street, Suite 334, New York, NY 10001, USA, tel: 212.244.7415 | Map

Louie, Kuksi & Helnwein at The Shooting Gallery, S.F.

The almighty triumvirate of Travis Louie (c.f. image above), Kris Kuksi (c.f. image below) and Mercedes Helnwein (huh?! o_O) have taken over the Shooting Gallery yesterday night for an amazing group show that will be on view until the end of October.

Even though I'm a great admirer of Herrn Helnwein's daughter's work, I can't really see how it will blend in with Louie's & Kuksi's incredibly detailed, profound works, but maybe the answer lies in the monochromaticity of her works.

I won't even begin to describe how much I envy you S.F. folks for the chance to get face to face with a skeletal Kuksi sculpture, but then again, we have the Giger Museum in Helvetistan and I guess you just can't have your facehugger and eat it.
