Suggestivism feat. Esao Andrews, Alex Gross, Kris Lewis et al. in Santa Ana

by Suzanne on January 31st, 2011

The Twenty by Alex Gross, oil on panel, 2003

I'm not sure whether I'm just announcing this exhibition to post some old-timey favourites of mine, but hey, Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein? Well, it depends on things like age, species, consent, I guess...

But anyways, following the recent trend of artist-curated group shows (I know you were expecting a rant here, but it's actually something I've really enjoyed seeing so far), Nathan Spoor brings Suggestivism to Santa Ana's Grand Central Art Center. The group exhibition opens this Saturday, February 5. Their website is behaving a bit spastically at the moment - they say it's a Firefox related issue which is wrong - so maybe check back in a few days.

The impressive line-up of artists include: Esao Andrews (middle), Carrie Ann Baade, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Ron English, Alex Gross (top), Femke Hiemstra, Audrey Kawasaki, Kris Kuksi, Kris Lewis (bottom), Elizabeth McGrath, Scott Musgrove, Michael Page, Heidi Taillefer, Robin Williams, Martin Wittfooth, and many, many others.

Details below, as always.

Das englische Fräulein

by Suzanne on October 10th, 2006

My beloved brother has a blog now. I'm so proud. Make sure to watch his vampire short film if you haven't seen it yet.

I'm having incredible fun with my new translation tool at the bottom of the left sidebar. If it already says the darndest things in the languages I do understand, I assume it totally sabotages my blog and spits out loads of insults in Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Huzzah!

'As I begin a painting the subject physically, emotionally and spiritually reveals itself to me. Each brushstroke speaks to the subsequent stroke, carrying out a dialogue, linking my subject and me as if we were meeting for the first time. I find this uncertainty exciting and embrace the indecisive nature of my work.'

I know I owe a gazillion of you emails. Some of you have been waiting for weeks, some even for months. I'm deeply sorry about this constant mailboxophobia of mine, but I'm terribly busy at the moment. Please rest assured that none of your emails are lost or forgotten, and that I will reply to them one fine day. My sincere apologies... *sighs*

I decided that you should not live another day without the thrilling knowledge that I'm the 5th Google Image Search hit for "cute armadillo". Weeee!
