Hmm.. why is it that I always forget to announce exhibitions I actually get snail mail invites for?!

The lovely Laurie Hogin sent me a flyer to her new twin NYC shows a few weeks ago and even though I'm afraid it's now too late for the artist receptions, you're still warmly invited to go and marvel at her impressive, luxurious & psychedelic work.

There's something ever so nicely organised about Laurie's fauna and flora. No matter how opulent her colour palette and how vivid the grimacing of the portrayed creatures gets, her animals mostly come in packs of two or three - almost as if they were waiting for Noah to open the bridge to the Ark, where they would probably take LSD, wave glow sticks in each others' faces till the break of dawn and then watch the strangely calming missiles rise in the distant sky.

Anyway, come for the rainbow-coloured animal and mushroom psychedelia, stay for the fireworks and surface-to-air missiles.

Monkey Brains is on show at the Schroeder Romero Gallery until January 10, 2009 and - at the same time - Laurie's work is presented in the even more aptly titled Neuromantic Evening, Psychotropical Paradise at Littlejohn Contemporary through January 3, 2009. Both galleries are in NYC. Further details below.
