Monkeys on the Loose in Frankfurt!

Next week, the world will once again celebrate the birthdays of two most illustrious historic figures: Alex CF and me Abe Lincoln and Charles Darwin. And rightly so. These two gentlemen have done so much more good for politics and science than the generations after them managed to destroy again.

Like many institutions worldwide - with London's Natural History Museum leading the way - The Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt celebrates Darwin's 200th birthday in a very special way, by bringing art and science together. The Kunsthalle composed an amazing show with fine examples of - both then and now - groundbreaking art, presenting amongst others some of my favourite scientific artists ever: Ernst Haeckel, Martin Johnson Heade and the marvellous Gabriel Cornelius von Max (see image above).

Evolutionär! opened yesterday and will remain on display until May 2009.
