Spreading fear and mayhem in the visual arts.

Robyn Stacey & Claire Morgan

by Suzanne on January 28th, 2008

Two inspiring and strong women of the taxidermy art world are currently exhibiting their works in Australia and England (both shows close Saturday):

Leidenmaster I by Robyn Stacey, 2003

In Paddington/AU, Robyn Stacey presents her oeuvre as part of the Season 07 group show at Stills Gallery.

As an artist with a keen eye for the historical and the scientific, Stacey has been photographing (mostly private) natural history collections in Australia and overseas for the past 8 years.

An anachronist at heart, she assembles and presents biological specimens & archaeological artefacts in the visually stunning taxonomist style of Albertus Seba or Ernst Haeckel.

The Fall by Claire Morgan, 2008

In London, Belfast-born artist Claire Morgan shows The Fall at ARTiculate Projects (they don't seem to have a website yet - please check details below for directions) - run by Arts Co founders Isabella Macpherson and Sigrid Wilkinson (article via e-flux).

Morgan seems as fascinated by the organic process of death and decay as by the man-made one of trash and recycling. It's therefore only consequent that she went dumpster diving in London parks to collect the materials for The Fall (c.f. image above) - which is the main focus of the exhibition at ARTiculate Projects.

Morgan's installation leads into a world full of fragile morbidity where junks of plastic mutate into featherweight leaves that form the words The Fall.
