Saturno Butto in Rome: Final Days

by Suzanne on June 1st, 2008

by Saturno Buttò

The mystic ritualism and over-saturated fleshy eroticism of Saturno Buttò's paintings have always greatly appealed to me.

However, it sometimes seemed to me that there was something (deliberately, I assume?) missing in his models' facial expressions that made them look rather lifeless and static - somewhat too stiff/proud/serious to become animate in my mind.

So seeing the adorable creature posing above smiling in such a genuine, utterly disarming, mesmerising yet modest way filled me with incredible glee.

Those of you who happen to be in Italy before Tuesday should absolutely go and see his current show at Mondo Bizzarro in Rome.

Closing: Tuesday, June 3, 2008

In other news, I had the immense pleasure and rare privilege to eat Norfolk Samphire (Salicornia europaea) the other day and it's the most delicious plant thingie I've ever tasted. Highly recommended!
