BLAB! Show at Copro Nason, Santa Monica

by Suzanne on September 6th, 2008

Well-Matched Lovers by Marc Burckhardt, acrylic and oil on wood panel

Woohooo! It's time for the 4th annual BLAB! Show.

The exhibition will open tonight and is a live sneak preview of the forthcoming issue of BLAB! featuring artworks from everyone's favourite comicspopsurrealismneofineart anthology.

One of the most eye-catching works on display is beyond doubt Marc Burckhardt's Well-Matched Lovers (c.f. image above / detail below) - a tongue-in-cheek piece inspired by the Renaissance tradition of the Ill-Matched Lovers. Read more about its background over at Marc's fascinating blog.

It looks like many artists will be present at the reception tonight so make sure to peek in to meet and greet some of the inspiring and talented artists who make BLAB! such an inimitable publication.

Charles Burns at Adam Baumgold Gallery, NYC

by Suzanne on September 5th, 2008

Permagel by Charles Burns, ink on paper, 2008

A major Charles Burns retrospective opens at Adam Baumgold Gallery tonight. Weeeeeeeeee!

The show will feature 50 of Charles' most iconic pen and ink drawings from the past 25 years. You can expect to see the original designs for some of his Black Hole covers (c.f. image below), as well as art from Skin Deep, Big Baby, El Borbah and Permagel (c.f. image above) - recently published by the deceased revolutionary people behind United Dead Artists - probably one of my favourite artists' collective ever.

In other Burnsesque news, does anyone know where I could get Suskie, Tony & Cob from Charles' Monster Teens (other than eBay, preferably)? I have the other three already, but I neee-eeee-eeeeeed to have them all! o_O
