DigiCams killed the Photo Booth Star

Shocked and appalled by the news that in 2007 all analog black & white photo booths in Switzerland will be gone, Wurzeltodâ„¢ came up with yet another cunning plan:

I hereby invite you, beloved reader living in the proximity of Zürich, to steal all your kids'/parents'/grandparents' pocket money and come to one of the few remaining Swiss b/w photo booths at Goldbrunnenstrasse¹ in Zürich - provided that it doesn't get destroyed in the meantime.

Our little outdoor Wurzeltodâ„¢ Photo Booth Party will take place on November 3, at 19:00 CET (till midnight).

Christoph Balke from SchnellPhoto AG - the company who runs the b/w Agfa paper photo booths - confirmed me that Agfa can't produce the required photo paper anymore and the machines could get picked up and replaced by cheap Chinese photo booths any moment.

In the very sad (but probable) case that we'll only find a hole in the ground, we'll just go to the nearest graveyard and lay all those precious moments that we spent in analog photo booths to rest. Hence the vodka, the cigarettes and the cigars.

Only fate will tell whether we'll get to take pictures or whether we'll have to attend a funeral. Please dress appropriately.

At any rate, you'll be part of a historic moment.

I hope to see some of you in November.

Yours analogly,

Sad news indeed. There are only a few ones left in Germany, too. I know one in Berlin, maybe I should use it quick.

I saw the digital ones all over Zurich and finally gave in and used one of those the morning I left. It wasn't until I was running (late) to catch a train to the airport that I saw the line of old analog booths at the train station. I was sad that I hadn't seen them sooner.

Yeah.. it's a real shame. :( Those analog machines create such flattering portraits. I love the way they make one's face look like a 50s movie star. B/w photo booths are just so much more glamorous.

@ Kid37: My ex bf who lives in Berlin recently told me that they're actually the biggest craze of the city at the moment. I guess it depends whether the machines work with Agfa paper or other paper. Agfa used to produce double-layered oh so magic photo paper for the Swiss b/w photo booths, but it's just not a lucrative business for them anymore. Maybe if the ones in Berlin work with different photo paper, they'll survive the onslaught of digitality longer. *sighs*
